Micro links aren’t normally used at No Label because we think that they cause too much damage to the natural hair.

Extensions can be utilized by clients who want to add fullness or length to their hair. Hormones can cause hair to recede and cause the area where bangs would typically be less full. Tape-ins are great for women who lack fullness after a hormonal change.

Extensions aren’t just for clients who want to achieve longer hair length. Shoulder-length hair can utilize extensions by combining wefts and tape-ins. Clients with fine hair can also achieve thickness by adding extensions. Some clients also may be hesitant to damage their natural hair with a color change but can be achieved with extensions. The best feeling for a stylist is when their client’s confidence shoots through the roof after receiving an extension service. Extensions enhance client confidence and can change the hair’s shape, length, fullness, and color.

Hand-tied extensions can last around six to 10 months, depending on the care of the hair. Rio’s favorite at-home maintenance is the B3 shampoo, conditioner, refresh spray, and several Kevin Murphy deep conditioners and hair oils. Utilizing these at-home care products and making appointments to move up the extensions around every 10 weeks will keep the extensions looking beautiful.

Rio, the Owner of No Label, has been doing extensions since they came out in 2016. Her favorite method to achieve a blended and natural look would be to combine methods. Rio combines tape-ins and wefts, as well as the underhand tied technique. Rio will typically install the extensions, then refer to other stylists for maintenance and move-up appointments.

Maddie, a level two stylist featured on the blog last week, has been certified since 2021. Her favorite method is tape-ins because you can go as minimal as you want or go all out with lots of hair. If your hair is thinning, bangs are trying to grow out, add dimension, or add fun colors but avoid the bleach to your natural hair; Maddie says extensions are the way to go. Maddie has used tape-ins and wefts in her hair but prefers tape-ins. She likes this method because she can add texture and fullness to her hair without adding length. Tape-ins are comfortable, and she can’t tell she has them a day or two after her move-up appointment. For tape-ins, clients should book move-up appointments around six to eight weeks. Clients should also brush their hair frequently and use conditioning masks to maintain the integrity of the extension hair.
